Important information for all Fellows of the Society, following the closure of the University Estate by the Vice-Chancellor due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
We have been informed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University that it may be months before we are able to resume normal activity. We will endeavour to keep you informed where possible with information updates on our website. Please continue check these pages for regular updates.
Throughout this period, we will continue to keep you informed and up-to-date by response to your emails and regular updates to the website. Please also note that we are unable to contact some of our Fellows who do not have email both in the UK and overseas.
Payment of Subscriptions
During the period that the offices are closed, all subscriptions will have to be made by online banking or payments by deposit through your bank. Unfortunately, we are no longer able to process cash or cheques during this time. If you wish to contact the Society directly please email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Research Studentships and Travel Grants
Payments for all existing Society grants will be made by online bank transfer, upon submission of a PDF of the signed claim form by email. Please do not send word documents.
Research Studentship Grants and Travel Grants have continued to be processed by the office during the University closure. Grant applications for the forthcoming deadlines can now be submitted using our new online submission procedure. Full details are on our funding pages.
The Travel Grant meetings were suspended for May. For the July deadline, grants were accepted for online registrations fees. This will continue until the ongoing travel restrictions have been lifted. All deferred applications that were received before the University closure will be put on hold until after the current restrictions have been removed.
Forthcoming lectures in the Michaelmas Term 2020 and Lent Term 2021 will continue to be organised by the Society as normal. For the Michaelmas Term these will be recorded on video and hosted on the Society’s website, until we are advised that the current restrictions are to be lifted.
Department and Summer Visits
The cancelled Easter Term Department visit to the Computer Museum and the Summer visit to the Chelsea Physic Garden will both be rescheduled to a later date.
Distribution of the Society’s book “Spirit of Inquiry”
Collection of copies of the book will no longer be possible from the Society’s office and requests for copies by post are also temporarily suspended by the publishers, until further notice.
We are endeavouring to deal with as much Society Business as possible, but our normal service standards will be affected and may change should staff become ill. We ask for your patience and understanding during this very difficult period.
